Just curious what you have in your arsenal. What darts you love, hate and wish you had. Any good leads on places to buy on-line? How about dart cases?
I started out throwing 27g. Hammer heads and grew to really dislike them. Aside from being so heavy they have an inherent rattle that drove me nuts. Now I’m throwing 25g. Black Widows with moveable points and I absolutely adore them.
I want to go with a lighter weight though (around 22g.) and I’m curious about the “Smartest Dart II”. Have any of you had any experience with them?

Re: What darts do you throw?
Fri, July 23, 2004 - 11:21 AMgod its been so long since ive even played. i used to throw league in atlanta in the late 80s early 90s and i had this set of $9 17 grams some made in china somethingorothers that i loved. everyone used to laugh at my darts. and i preferred the big flights as opposed to the thinner streamlined ones. they seriously looked like kids toys.
its been so long since ive been active that i dont know what i would want to use now.

as far as that rattle you spoke of, is it because the threads may be a bit loose on the back? if you stick the male end, no not yours, up into a cigarette celaphane wrapper and screw it back in and tear off the extra it will work as a gasket and keep it tight -

Re: What darts do you throw?
Wed, September 22, 2004 - 2:44 PMactually on hammerhead darts when they get old the rattling comes from the tips, not the threads, the tips compact inward when they hit the board just in case you hit the wire the weight of the darts will follow though and give it a second whallop on impact, I personally dislike hammerheads, but i know people who swear by them, I use a lighter 22 grahm tungsden dart and I try to get the longest tail i can to prevent barrel rolling, i also have gaskets for the threads, if you cant find gaskets find some kid who has braces, those little rubber bands they use might be a good fit. I also got some of those little tiny caps for my flights, it saves the life of your flights so they dont split on you as fast.

Re: What darts do you throw?
Sun, December 26, 2004 - 1:43 PMIf you hadn't mentioned Black Widows, I wouldn't have remembered the name, but I have 25g fixed-point BWs that I love. I use the long, skinny, ribbed Vortex brand flights with a fairly short shaft.
As far as the 17g Chinese darts go, I must admit I've known very good players who don't even have their own darts, who can whup my ass with the crappy 16-17g bar darts.
Although I prefer heavier darts, I also have a set of of little tiny darts that come in a case that resembles, and is the size of, a matchbook. Gold plated points and weights, with molded plastic shafts/flights. Cost $15-20, as I recall. Sometimes I'll warm up with them, or even play games with them. It's much easier to fit three of those in the bullseye than three full-sized darts!

I throw 14 gram VOKS GT darts with the Tommy Baker hammerhead points. The perfect dart for both steel and soft tip...
I taught a lifelong friend how to play darts shortly after we graduated from college - today he is a pro that travels all over the country beating some of the top players in the world and sometimes showing up in the steel and soft tip pro rankings. Perhaps you've heard of him - he goes by "Bruceque." (pronounced like Brewski...)

Re: What darts do you throw?
Fri, December 2, 2005 - 7:27 AMHey Josef, if you like the Widows (they are top of the line), they also come in 22g (with moveable points - www.edarts.net/st_darts/blwidow.shtml). I throw with 21g generic brand (got them 10 years ago) and they do me fine.
If you want to buy online, I suggest ordering from Big River (www.edarts.net/) - The guy who runs it is quick, does not charge much for shipping and super reliable. You can get cases (I suggest the Dartmaster Solo Case www.edarts.net/cases/solocase.shtml).
Check out my website dedicated to my NYDO Tuesday night team, The Dartside, at www.geocities.com/thedartside.

Re: What darts do you throw?
Thu, December 15, 2005 - 11:16 AMYa know, I've found that I do prefer a heavier dart. I've grown to love my Black Widow's so much that I picked up a second set for back up. I've been using a Shorter shaft on them and a nice wide dimpled flight and they've been flying great.
As for cases, I got the Dartmaster Pro-pack about a year ago and it's fantastic. Holds 2 complete sets, plus supplies and no more bent flights.
Most of my purchases have been from a-zdarts.com. They have an outstanding selection of flights and very good and prompt customer service. I'll have to check out the place you recommended though.
Thanks,
